What happened
- On 7 Oct 2026, OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT with a feature it calls Intelligent UI. Replies can now include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and interactive tools, not just text. (OpenAI)
- Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users got it first, running on GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go users started getting it on 8 Oct, running on GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on workplace admin settings. (OpenAI)
- You can ask ChatGPT to build a tool on the spot, such as a savings calculator, a bill splitter or a simple game. When plain text is the best answer, you still get plain text. (OpenAI)
- Company claim: GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions that need a web search 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. (OpenAI)
- Company claim: more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT each week. (OpenAI)
- OpenAI itself says there is still work to do on the model’s design judgment. (OpenAI)
- This update only changes the Chat tab. The GPT-6 Sol and Luna models first arrived on 22 Sep in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, and the models in Work and Codex are not changing now. (OpenAI, OpenAI Help Center)
Our read (opinion)
The chat box is quietly turning into an app builder. That is genuinely useful for quick sums and comparisons.
But a calculator that looks polished is not automatically a calculator that is correct. Interactive answers raise the need for checking it, not lower it.
Do this
Next time you need a quick calculation (an EMI, a bill split, a savings target), ask ChatGPT: “Build me a calculator for this.” Then work out one result by hand before you trust the rest.
